Ickle Me Pickle Me Tickle me too!

I love Shel Silverstein poetry ... I always have! When ever I'm feeling bad, all I have to do is think of one of his silly or profound poems and I can't help but smile! Let me share a few of my favorites:

HUG O WAR

I will not play at tug o' war.
I'd rather play at hug o' war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,
And everyone wins.

Warning

Inside everybody's nose
There lives a sharp-toothed snail.
So if you stick your finger in,
He may bite off your nail.
Stick it farther up inside,
And he may bite your ring off.
Stick it all the way, and he
May bite the whole darn thing off.

MY BEARD

"My beard grows down to my toes,
I never wears no clothes,
I wraps my hair
Around my bare,
And down the road I goes."

RAIN

I opened my eyes
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
And flowed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the slishity-slosh of the rain in my head.

I step very softly,
I walk very slow,
I can’t do a handstand—
I might overflow,
So pardon the wild crazy thing I just said—
I’m just not the same since there’s rain in my head.

I love Shel Silverstein too! He is totally awesome. Didn't he write The Giving Tree? That is one of my favorite books. I used to have him on tape reading his poems and I used to play it for my second graders when I taught school. His voice added a lot to the poems.....you can imagine it, right? Totally cool!

I have always loved those poems when you quote them. Put me down as a fan.

I tried introducing my kids to him but I don't think they quite get it yet. That is some good stuff!
