In a poorly lit corner of her apartment, she made greeting cards. Tiny little works of art handmade for her own amusement. She found it therapeutic as she glued, cut and created. Often, while creating, she would ponder so many things in her life. Problems seemed so much easier to solve with a glue stick! Then, when she was finished, she would find someone in her address book to send it to.
This began when she had been rummaging through a box and found a birthday card that she received some time ago. It was sent to her by her grandma just before she died. It was the last birthday card she had ever received from grandma. Her grandma passed away just days before her birthday that year but had already written the card. She remembered the bitter sweet feeling receiving such a precious gift at so vulnerable a time. Looking at her grandmother's handwriting and it brought tears to her eyes. Her handwriting was an actual piece of her that she would cherish. She fumbled through the box further, finding more priceless treasures. Notes from old friends and family members, each one just as precious as the last offering encouragement and hope. Reminding her that no matter how frustrating and unfair life seems there are people who are with her offering strength and love and prayer.
Because the woman knew first hand that we all feel insignificant and alone now and again. She knew how important those written notes can be to offer comfort and strength. From that point on, she promised to take a lesson from life and make a point to notice and express gratitude, concern and love to individuals in her life. Learning that in order to see your world change, you must do something to change your world. She changes the world by making cards and sending love to the world, one postage stamp at a time!
